At Kaya Upendo Foundation, we believe that learning is more than books and blackboards ; it’s about nurturing creativity and imagination. During one of our visits, we brought along simple but powerful tools: crayons, manilla paper, and clay dough.
The classroom came alive with color as the children drew, molded, and created. These moments gave the children a chance to express themselves freely and build confidence.
Beyond learning, the activities became a bridge for bonding. Laughter filled the room as children worked side by side, sharing ideas and helping each other.
What seemed like small gifts turned into lasting memories, proving that creativity not only fuels the mind but also strengthens community and connection.
At Kaya, we are committed to feeding both body and spirit.
Dancing into Belonging
On a recent visit we carried music and we danced together.
The children laughed, clapped, and joined in with such freedom that the room was filled with life and happiness. A sense of belonging took over.
Their teacher’s words captured the moment best:
“When you come spend time with us, we feel seen and like we belong. We have been segregated and looked down upon for many years. You make us feel human again. Thank you so much.”
Beyond what we brought in our hands, what we shared from the heart brought dignity, and love.
A Clearer Vision for Her Future
She has lived with an array of disabilities, but severe nearsightedness made learning even harder. Struggling to see the blackboard, she often sat too close and worked slowly, moving with extra caution.
Through Kaya’s partnership with the Kenya Society for the Blind, she received glasses; a simple gift that changed everything. Now she can see the board, keep up in class, and live with more confidence and freedom.
At Kaya, we believe every child deserves the chance to learn and thrive.
At Kaya Upendo, some of our happiest moments are the simple ones — like playing outside with the kids. The laughter, the cheering, the small victories when someone jumps the rope for the first time — those moments stay with us.
For our special needs children, playtime is more than just fun. It’s a time when they feel free, seen, and loved just as they are. No pressure, no labels — just pure joy and connection.
And for us, it’s healing too. Watching their faces light up reminds us why we do what we do. Every smile, every laugh shared in that open space reminds us that love doesn’t need words — it just needs presence. That’s the heart of Kaya Upendo.
Shee wa Maziwa- One Carton at a Time
Over the time we’ve been serving at Kaya Upendo, one thing has remained constant, we always bring milk. It started as a simple complimentary gift, but it quickly became something the children look forward to with excitement.
Somewhere along the way, they even gave me a nickname “Shee wa Maziwa” and I wear it with so much pride.
So far, we’ve shared over 60 cartons of milk, each one symbolizing care, nourishment, and love. For us, milk isn’t just about nutrition; it’s about the warmth it brings, the smiles it creates, and the reminder that kindness, in its simplest form, can fill both stomachs and hearts.
At Kaya Upendo, we’ll keep showing up with open hearts, steady hands, and of course… more milk.
